About US

Katrin Tchana, LICSW

I began my career as a psychotherapist working in a Dialectical Behavioral Therapy program.  Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, or “DBT”, is a therapeutic intervention that combines the idea of Mindfulness (that is, paying attention in the present moment) with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and a warm, egalitarian relationship between client and therapist.  DBT continues to be at the foundation of my approach to healing.

I am also an EMDR practitioner and I combine EMDR with an Ego-States approach to therapy that I find to be extremely effective for people who have Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder or attachment wounds.

In addition to these conventional approaches to psychotherapy, I am a trained astrologer, and I have found that working with archetypes and an awareness of the natal chart can be helpful.  I am happy to include astrological chart work in the therapeutic process if this is of interest to you. Dreamwork can be a powerful addition to therapy, and I encourage my clients to pay attention to their dreams and use them as guidance for healing and change.

I specialize in working with people who have complex trauma, but I enjoy working with any person who is at a change point in their life and looking for support to take the next step on a complicated path.  I also provide couples counseling and family work.

I have a BA in Human Ecology from College of the Atlantic, an MA in Teaching from Columbia University and an MSW from the University of Vermont.  I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the States of Vermont and New Hampshire.  License number NH 1822, VT 089.0134159.

Mary Helen Bently, LICSW

I am a Clinical Social Worker who’s provided school-based therapy, hospital-based
therapy and worked in the Community Mental Health System for many years. I have
served as the Clinical Director for various mental health programs and grant-funde
initiatives. I currently provide individual therapy to adults and I also work with couples
and families. I specialize in working with clients who have been injured at work or have
complex medical problems, including Traumatic Brain Injury, that can both provoke
mental health problems and interfere with healing. I approach my work with a respect
for the clients’ history and the learning and wisdom they bring to the therapeutic
process. I have been trained in a number of different modalities, including CBT and
EMDR, but the core of my work with clients is to listen deeply and help make sense of
complicated experiences.

I have a BS in Psychology with a minor in Music from Eastern Michigan
University and a Masters in Social Work from Adelpi University. I am licensed to
practice in the states of VT and NH. License Number NH 5223, License Number
VT 89-0000014.
